History of Ripley Castle
Ripley Castle is a beautiful Grade I listed fourteenth-century country house located in Ripley, North Yorkshire, three miles north of Harrogate. The Ingleby family acquired the medieval manor house as a dowry after Sir Thomas Ingleby married Edelin Twenge in 1308/9. The castle undertook a major rebuild between 1783 and 1786 under guidance from Sir John Ingleby. His son rebuilt the surrounding village of Ripley and endowed it with a huge Hotel de Ville too.
In 2009, the Ingleby family celebrated a remarkable seven hundred years at Ripley Castle. All the documents, letters and deeds that tend to get lost or thrown away with every move have survived, highlighting a unique story intertwined with plagues, civil wars, attempted regicide, inept heirs, and religious/ political conspiracies. It’s a true historic wonder!

With such history surrounding the venue, it’s no surprise it’s one of the most stunning in the country! The entrance hall alone is breath-taking. With a winding grand staircase, stain-glass windows, candelabras, and historic portraits on the walls, it’s the perfect spot for an elegant picture of you ascending the stairs with your dress cascading down the staircase. Alternatively, the mid-sixteenth century tower is also a notable room as it features original panelling and boasts a fine plaster ceiling, making for a beautiful backdrop.
You can also make use of the extensive gardens and lakeside for a pre-wedding photoshoot. The kitchen garden and orangery with pavilions date back to the 1800s and make a stunning backdrop for romantic pictures as a happy couple.
My Yorkshire wedding photography is contemporary, natural, and documentary in style, telling the story of your wedding day and your love for one another creatively, producing timeless and stunning wedding photos that you can treasure for a lifetime. I absolutely love black and white, and I’m sure to include some in your final images; they make for some stunning images.
I know that you’re going to be really eager to get your photos back. Not to worry, I expedite the process to get the photos to you. It takes a little bit of time to sort through the photos and get rid of pictures where people are blinking that you don’t want to see. Additionally, I fully edit each picture in my signature style to ensure all your photos remain consistent. With that being said, you can expect to see your photos within 1 to 3 weeks of your wedding but it is usually at the faster end that.
Remember, you can’t rush perfection!
Absolutely, one of the best things you can do is print your wedding photos and you can do that by ordering one of my wedding albums. I offer beautiful handmade wedding albums, examples of which you can come and view at my studio. These are made by GraphiStudio, one of the top suppliers in Europe, and they offer many options. Your wedding album can be customized to match your colour scheme or preference. You can view my blog on wedding photo albums here.
The minimum number of images in my full-day packages is 500-700; however, the final number is usually higher, and there is no limit on the number of images you get. I take many more images on the day to ensure I document everything going on; however, many of the shots are duplicates or test shots. I will say that nothing is held back, and everything that meets my high standard is presented to you. Nobody wants to receive photos of people looking away or with their eyes closed.
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the amount you should spend on a wedding photographer will vary depending on your couple’s specific needs and preferences. However, a reasonable estimate for wedding photography costs in the UK would range from £1,000 to £2,500. Hitched released some data in 2023 to say that the average cost of hiring a wedding photographer in the UK is £1300. Remember everyone has different budgets and needs, your quote may change depending on the location, type of photography (posed or candid), and number of photos that are taken. It is also important to remember that these are just estimates – costs may actually be higher or lower depending on your specific needs and circumstances. It is a good idea to chat with a wedding photographer before making any final decisions about budgeting. My full day wedding photography costs start from £1200 and I also offer a half day collection. Please do let me know if you have any questions.
Seven hours of coverage is generally not enough to document a full wedding day in North Yorkshire. Most wedding ceremonies are 1 pm or 2 pm which means the wedding photographer would start bridal preparations around 11am. If the cutting of the cake and first dance is 8pm, then you would need 10 hours of coverage for the day. My packages cover from two hours before the ceremony for bridal prep through to the first dance and some dancefloor action after.
Hiring a wedding photographer is a worthwhile investment with 87% of UK couples choosing to hire a professional. It’s an ideal way to preserve memories of one of the most important days of their lives. You’ll get high-quality images that capture a wedding day’s special moments, emotions, and details. Take a look at my wedding portfolio to see images from previous weddings.
No one can control the weather, but if you are willing to embrace the elements, we can still create some really stunning images. I always have a plan B and have lighting ready for indoor photography. Here is a blog I wrote on if it rains on your wedding day.
I love to meet my couples before your wedding at your choice of location. We can spend some time together, get to know one another and feel at ease in eachothers presence. It is a great opportunity to capture your love for one another without any onlookers. You can find out more on my engagement photoshootblog.
Your initial deposit is only £300 and is non-refundable; this covers my admin fees and comes off your balance. The final balance is due 2 months before your wedding date but can be paid off in instalments if you wish.
