What if it Rains on your Wedding Day?

What if it Rains on your Wedding Day?

Is Rain Good on your Wedding Day?

If you have been constantly checking the weather app, dreading seeing that little cloud appear on your wedding day, don’t worry! Should it be a drizzle or an absolute downpour, you are likely to be worried about your dress staying perfect or the family photos being full of glum faces. You can safely ignore the distant relatives telling you how perfect their day was with a bright shining sun and clear skies. Actually having some rain on your day is a good thing, not only will it help you stay cool under all those layers of lace and tulle but if you choose me as your wedding photographer, the rain allows me to create some beautiful wedding photos.

Although the weather being out of your hands can be an endless source of panic, there are steps that you can take to ensure that the day flows smoothly no matter what happens.

Should you have a rain plan?

Whether you’re saying “I do” in your own garden or in a beautiful garden of a heritage estate, all couples should have a plan for rain on the day. Having this contingency plan not only takes stress off of you as a couple, it allows the wedding planner to seamlessly swap between the dry to the damp plans. Always discuss with the venue you are having an outdoor ceremony as to what the plan B would be, whether it’s a tepee or a room indoors, incase of the unpredictable. No matter what you decide to do, I would love to capture your day and help you remember the good times.

Check the weather

Having an idea of what the weather may look like on your day will help you decide what you should plan for. Even though the weather can’t truly be predicted until 48 hours before, having a rough idea will help you and your photographer plan for the day’s schedule and how best to capture the day. However, constantly checking the weather may only stress you out even more so, check occasionally and trust the contingency plans that you create as a couple. I am always prepared and know exactly what the weather will do so if you book me as your wedding photographer, I can happily work alongside you in this to ensure that your day is photographed the way you want it to be.

Finalise a backup plan

Should raindrops be a possibility, having a plan B is a necessary part of planning your wedding. As you speak with venues, talk with them about the backup options for rain on your wedding day. You can use these to help you determine your venue. However, if you don’t want to say “I do” indoors then you can always contact a rental company for a tent or marquee to host the day outdoors and under cover. Having this backup means that should you want the cover, it is available if the weather turns.

Come Prepared

There are a few things that every couple should have on their day. First being an umbrella, this allows you and your partner to stay dry on the day. I recommend having a clear umbrella since they don’t hide your outfit and look amazing in photographs. I always have a white umbrella to match your dress and also to use for my magical lighting wedding photos.

In case you do brave the rain, I recommend having a second pair of shoes to change into which are comfy and waterproof. This allows for you to have a dry pair as you dance the night away indoors and the second for escaping outdoors in the twilight for some intimate photos of just you two.

It is good to pack some hand towels to wipe down seats and surfaces outside so that once the rain passes, you and your guests have places to sit.

It is always a good idea to take your guests into consideration on your big day. Having a small basket of umbrellas (these can be lent by family and friends) allows your guests to walk around the venue safely.

Be flexible and embrace it

Should it be that the start time of your wedding gets delayed or there is a location change, embrace that. If you choose to book me as your wedding photographer, you can know that I am confident with a plan changing and adapting to a new location to capture your day perfectly. I find that using the rain can make for beautiful photos that highlight you as a couple. Using lighting techniques, I feel comfortable shooting perfect photos of you and your partner in the rain. However, should you wish to stay indoors, I can always capture stunning photos of you and your families.

Instead of stressing about the weather, focus on what is the important part of your day. Saying “I do” to the one you love surrounded by your friends and family.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the amount you should spend on a wedding photographer will vary depending on your couple’s specific needs and preferences. However, a reasonable estimate for wedding photography costs in the UK would range from £1,000 to £2,500. This amount may change depending on the location, type of photography ( posed or candid ), and number of photos that are taken. It is also important to remember that these are just estimates – costs may actually be higher or lower depending on your specific needs and circumstances. It is a good idea to chat with a wedding photographer before making any final decisions about budgeting. Let me know if you have any questions.

Seven hours of coverage is generally not enough to document a full wedding day in North Yorkshire. Most wedding ceremonies are 1 pm or 2 pm which means the wedding photographer would start bridal preparations around 11am. If the cutting of the cake and first dance is 8pm, then you would need 10 hours of coverage for the day.

Hiring a wedding photographer is a worthwhile investment with 87% of UK couples choosing to hire a professional. It’s an ideal way to preserve memories of one of the most important days of their lives. You’ll get high-quality images that capture a wedding day’s special moments, emotions, and details. Take a look at my wedding portfolio to see images from previous weddings.

I know that you’re going to be really eager to get your photos back. Not to worry, I expedite the process to get the photos to you. It takes a little bit of time to sort through the photos and get rid of pictures where people are blinking that you don’t want to see. Additionally, I fully edit each picture to ensure my style remains consistent. With that being said, you can expect to see your photos within 3 to 4 weeks of your wedding but it can usually be faster than that.

Remember, you can’t rush perfection!
