Getting Married at The Hospitium, Museum Gardens, York?

Located in the heart of York’s Museum Gardens, the Hospitium is a magnificent wedding venue that offers couples a truly magical day to remember. Boasting an impressive 14th-century building, the Hospitium is a truly unique setting for a wedding, with features such as an antique fireplace and original stained glass windows.

The Hospitium is licensed for civil ceremonies and is ideal if you’re looking for a romantic and intimate venue for your special day. It has a capacity for up to 80 people and can be set up to suit your individual needs and tastes, from simple and elegant to a more elaborate and traditional style. The stunning Museum Gardens is perfect for your wedding photos and I’d love to be able to capture the unique love story of your wedding day in this wonderful North Yorkshire setting.

The History of The Hospitium

The Hospitium was built in 1376 and stands head and shoulders above any other venues in York city centre. The venue was given its original status as an ‘oratory’ or place of worship in 1535, and remained so until the 1820s, when it was converted into an outdoor community space and a ‘hospitium’ or place of hospitality. Today, the Hospitium has been restored to its former grandeur and is the perfect setting for a magnificent wedding.

Weddings and Events at The Hospitium

The Hospitium is available for exclusive hire for your wedding day and includes a range of facilities to ensure your day runs smoothly. The large timber-paneled room with its original features can be set up to your requirements, and there is a large kitchen that is ideal for catering and drinks.

The Hospitium consists of three elegant rooms; the Great Hall, the Parlour, and the West Wing. The Great Hall is the main area of the building and has a capacity of up to 165 standing guests, with the option to move chairs so guests can be seated. The Parlour is smaller and more intimate and is ideal for a ceremony or drinks reception with up to 75 guests. Finally, the West Wing of The Hospitium provides couples with even more space to create their own unique event. With a wooden floor, space for 150 guests, and room to move, the West Wing is perfect for a larger wedding or reception.

The hospitium has an experienced and professional team on hand to help you create the perfect wedding day, from the planning stage all the way through to the after-ceremony celebrations. They are always happy to answer any queries you may have and can help you create your own special touch to your day.
