Questions to ask your Wedding Photographer
Your wedding day will be one of the most beautiful days of your life, so it is important to choose a wedding photographer that will capture all those precious moments that you will treasure for years to come. But where do you even begin searching for the right photographer when there are so many to choose from? Here are the top 7 most helpful questions to ask your wedding photographer to help you find the right fit for your wedding.
1. What experience do you have when it comes to wedding photography?
Weddings can be stressful, unexpected, and often intense days for vendors, so you want to make sure that you choose a seasoned professional that can adapt to the challenges of the day and still capture stunning photos. A photographer who specialises in weddings might come with a bigger price tag; however, this means they know what they’re doing and can work around your plans even when faced with unexpected delays or changes to the day’s schedule.
As for myself, I specialise in wedding photography and have experience working around you and your needs. Having photographed many weddings across North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire, I am very familiar with many of the most popular wedding venues available, meaning that I have the knowledge and experience to make your wedding photos stand out.
My photography is award-winning, and I am qualified with the Guild of Photographers. This is a testament to my photography quality and ensures that my style and quality stay consistent, always delivering exceptional memories that can be cherished forever.
2. Have you photographed weddings at this venue before? If not, will you be able to visit beforehand?
This is an important question because if a photographer has taken pictures at a venue before they will be more familiar and at ease on the day because they know what to expect. Chances are they will have already found the best angles and positions to use to capture stunning wedding photos.
If they haven’t visited the venue before, it would be beneficial to find out if they are willing to do so – this will allow them to familiarise themselves with the surroundings and plan for your big day.
I have worked at many venues across North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire and know the best locations to use to make your wedding photos stand the test of time. If I haven’t worked at your wedding venue before, I am willing to explore it together with you and choose key locations for your photos on the day.
One of my couples chose to have their photos taken in a beautiful little village in East Yorkshire, so we scheduled a visit and made a list of the locations they wanted to feature. The results were gorgeous, and I felt very at ease on the day because I was familiar with the environment.
3. Have you photographed a wedding of a similar size before?
This is an important question to ask if your wedding size is outside the norm – If your wedding is larger than average, you might want to ask if your photographer can bring someone to help (second photographer). This will ensure that they will take pictures of all your guests across every special moment on the day. If your wedding is smaller than average or chose to have a micro wedding, your photographer will need to think of creative ways to use the time and perhaps plan a more elaborate photo session for you and your partner. 4. What are your prices and what wedding packages do you offer?
While photography is an important part of any wedding, it is understandable that every couple’s budget is different. Ask your photographer if they offer price packages to suit different budget levels or if they would be willing to create a bespoke package based on your needs.
My wedding packages range from micro sessions that last around 2 hours, to my deluxe Diamond Collection which includes two photographers, all your photos in an online gallery, a luxury Italian storybook wedding album and a twilight photography session with much more. I have a photography package to suit any budget – stunning wedding photography without breaking the bank.
5. How would you describe your style?
You put a lot of thought and effort into making sure that every detail is perfect on your wedding day, so why not do the same when it comes to your wedding photography? It is important to find a photographer that can understand your vision and whose style you like. Photography is an art, and every artist has their own style and technique.
For example, my photography style is contemporary and natural, telling the story of your wedding day. I love to create with you as a couple and create some stunning couple portraits. I combine staged shots with candid pictures of those sweet little moments that make your wedding day so special.
6. Would I be able to give you a list of shots I’d like?
Your photographer might have a list of key shots in mind, but it’s important to ask if they are open to your input. If you want a longer guest photo session, they will need to know and plan for that in advance. You won’t have time to coordinate this on your wedding day, so having a list of shots you would like will allow the photographer to organise your guests so you can be stress-free and looking your best in your photos. You can view my gallery here.
I work closely with all my couples and agree on a list of key family members and friends they want pictures with. I then plan my time accordingly to capture every moment that matters to you.
7. Do you offer wedding albums?
It’s worth finding out if your wedding photographer offers a printing or album service and whether there is a wedding album included in their packages. They will already have photographed your wedding and will know your style and theme very well by now, so it makes sense to have them be in charge of your album as well.
All my full day wedding packages include a stunning Italian storybook wedding album made of high-quality materials that will last for years to come. Your wedding album will be as unique and special as your big day itself.
Planning a wedding can be stressful, and there are many things to consider, but I hope these questions will at least help you choose the right wedding photographer to capture your big day.
